This morning, I was glancing over this wonderful verse, that is actually displayed on a magnet upon my refrigerator:
II Peter 1:3-4
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
As I read it, the phrase bolded, “through our knowledge of him” was highlighted by the Holy Spirit within my spirit. And therefore, I began to ponder it within myself, against other verses I knew by memory, within my mind, and some conclusions began to form.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children. Hosea 4:6
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. II Peter 3:18
For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it. Ecc 7:12
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7
These verses are by no means “exhaustive”…They are only the ones that came to my own mind this morning. You may wish to find more in your own concordance…
BUT, in a nutshell, this is what I received, to share:
The divine power that is available to each of us is in direct proportion to our obtaining knowledge of Him and His Word and Will. We “grow” in this grace and knowledge, and “obtain wisdom” which is then able to preserve our life, and give us understanding to handle day-to-day decisions, based upon believing the promises of God and obeying the will of God… Actually, receiving his very divine nature within us, as we take in this knowledge, enabling us to escape the corruption caused by evil desires.
SO, my friends, I exhort you in Jesus name, to GAIN KNOWLEDGE! Don’t be one of those “that perish” for lack of it! In the days ahead, we are going to need all the knowledge we are able to obtain of our Lord…And we will be depending upon His promises… and on what he says of good and evil, right and wrong, etc. We will be deceived and perish if we have lack of knowledge!! This is therefore, both an exhortation and a warning, to get into the WORD!
A great starting place in your quest for knowledge and wisdom is in reading a chapter of Proverbs for every day in the month, i.e. on the 3rd read Proverbs 3. On the 15th, read Proverbs 15. Today is the 28th, so read Proverbs 28… and do that each day of each month, each month of the year. It is very enjoyable reading and can be the beginning of your quest for knowledge. And remember, knowledge is not wisdom, unless applied. Some of us “know” these things, but do not “obey” or “apply” them…and then it is to no advantage. What you read must be mixed with faith, and then it results in God’s divine power released into your life… daily. You’ll see!
ENJOY YOUR QUEST FOR KNOWLEDGE OF GOD AND CHRIST JESUS! Herein is YOUR HOPE for the handling the future with wisdom and confidence! For His Divine Power will “activate” within you! Amen?!
In Jesus Name… May you be blessed with EVER- INCREASING KNOWLEDGE of HIM. Amen.
